How it works

Three simple steps. If your child has already had a Medicare Healthy Kids Check somewhere else, just let us know when you call.

  1. Call reception

    Ring 07 3480 0111 and ask for a 3 year old Healthy Kids Check. We’ll check your child is eligible and book a longer appointment with your GP.

  2. Bring a few things

    • Medicare card
    • Red book (Personal Health Record), if you have it
    • Any notes from childcare, kindy or other health professionals
    • Your questions

  3. See your GP

    Your GP looks at your child’s health and development with you, gives you practical advice, and offers you a written report to keep.

What your GP checks

The check brings together your child’s history, anything you or their educators have noticed, and a gentle, basic examination.

Growth and general health

Medical history, immunisations, allergies, plus height and weight against growth charts.

Development and behaviour

Speech, play, movement, learning, and how they’re going socially and emotionally.

Eyesight, hearing and teeth

A basic look at vision, hearing, and teeth and gums.

Daily routines

Eating, sleep, active play, screen time, toilet training, and childcare or kindy.

Handy tip: the red book includes a short development questionnaire for children aged 2½ to 3½. Filling it in at home before your visit gives you and your GP a great place to start. If anything needs a closer look, your GP will arrange follow up or a referral.
